TCS Nashik Case: BPO Shuts, WFH Ordered, Nationwide Protests

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has closed its Nashik BPO office, allowing employees to work from home for safety following allegations of sexual harassment and religious coercion. The case has drawn significant attention, with claims against HR Manager Nida Khan, who allegedly suppressed complaints.

Days after the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) conversion row began, the company shut down the Nashik BPO office and asked its employees to work from home as a precautionary measure for their convenience and safety. This comes after the religious conversion and sexual harassment claims came out. According to sources quoted by ANI, the decision was taken keeping employee safety in mind.

The case began after several female employees at the Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) Nashik office accused their colleagues of sexual harassment and religious coercion. New details emerged recently, revealing more insights into the case as it focuses on the HR Manager Nida Khan, also known as the “lady captain”.

Earlier on Thursday, several women in Nashik held a ‘Ranragini Jan Akrsoh’ bike rally to raise the issues of alleged religious conversion and sexual harassment at the TCS Nashik office.

The Bajrang Dal on Wednesday called for a nationwide protest on April 16 and 17 to denounce alleged instances of sexual harassment and forced conversion at TCS Nashik. In its statement, the Bajrang Dal, the youth wing of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), alleged waging of “love jihad”, encroachments on forest, public, defence and railway land, and harassment in Muslim-dominated areas.

VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal said the outfit’s workers will demonstrate across the country and mobilise members of the Hindu community. Earlier, the VHP expressed concern over the alleged incidents of religious conversion and “love jihad” in the country, and called for the enactment of a stringent nationwide law to curb illegal conversions.

Meanwhile, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran has ordered an internal investigation too, calling such allegations “gravely concerning and anguishing.” In a statement, Chandrasekaran said the matter is being treated with the “utmost seriousness”, and action has already been initiated against the accused employees. He added that the company is extending full cooperation to the ongoing investigations.

“The Tata Group maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of coercion or misconduct by its employees,” the statement said, adding that a thorough probe is underway to establish facts and identify all individuals responsible.
